The Large Hadron Collider

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is a proton-proton collider with a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV and is now in the final phase of hardware commissioning before the first beams are injected later this year. A brief description of some of the novel design features is given and the prospects for operation in 2008 are discussed.
