Science \& Society: What does the future hold?

Abstract

The scientific discoveries and the progress of our civilization in the past century have been breathtaking. But what research projects will advance society in the 21st century? How do we balance curiosity-driven research and application-driven research? How will we fund research? Join three distinguished scientists to discuss these and other questions at a public town hall meeting on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. The scientists are:\\[2pt] - Prof. Lawrence Krauss, Arizona State University, author of The Physics of Star Trek;\\[0pt] - Prof. Chris Llewellyn-Smith, Oxford University, former director of UK's fusion program\\[0pt] - Dr. Pier Oddone, director of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.\\[2pt] The event is organized by the APS Forum on Physics \& Society.
