Measurement of the Target Single Spin Asymmetry $A_y^n$ in the Inclusive DIS $n^{\uparrow}$(e,e') Reaction from a Vertically Polarized $^3He$ Target

Abstract

We have recently measured the target SSA $A_y^n$ in the inclusive DIS $n^{\uparrow}$(e,e') reaction using a vertically Polarized $^3He$ Target. The measurement was performed parasitically during Jefferson Lab Hall A Experiment E06-010 from October 2008 to February 2009, using 6 GeV electron beam scattering on a 40 cm polarized $^3$He target. The goal of the experiment was to improve the upper limit of $A_y^n$ by two orders of magnitude compared with the SLAC proton experiment performed 35 years ago. A non-zero result would be a sign of chiral symmetry breaking that is beyond the leading twist QCD picture of DIS. Analysis progress will be reported.
