Particle on the Innermost Stable Circular Orbit of a Rapidly Spinning Black Hole

Abstract

We consider the field of a particle orbiting on the innermost stable circular orbit of a nearly extremal Kerr black hole. We derive an analytic expression for the scaling of the power radiated as extremality is approached. This can be viewed as a ``critical exponent'' for the simplified behavior near the zero-temperature point of the Kerr family.
