Application of Wavelet Packet Analysis to the Measurement of the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation

Abstract

We develop a method of wavelet packet analysis to measure the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) peak and apply this method to the CMASS galaxy catalog from the SDSS Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) collaboration. We compare our results to a fiducial ?CDM flat cosmological model and detect a BAO signature in the power spectrum comparable to the previous consensus results of the BOSS collaboration. We find $D_A = 1365 r_d/r_{d,fid}$ at $z = .54$.
