Parallelizing Mie Scattering Calculations of Aerosol Extinction and Absorption

POSTER

Abstract

Aerosol particles play an important role in absorption and scattering of light in the atmosphere. A Mie scattering model can be used to find optical parameters of systems of strongly absorbing particles. The goal of this work is to develop parallel computing methods to increase the computational efficiency of such a model. The key area that benefits from parallelization is the calculation of the extinction and absorption spectrum. Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) is used to implement a parallel solution for the generation of these spectra.
