Transitioning from Astronomy to Tech Start-Ups

Interested in data science? Want to know what it is and why is everyone talking about it? In this talk I will discuss my transition from building and studying astronomical instruments and explosive stars to working at tech start-ups in retail and healthcare as a data scientist. In particular, I will discuss some of the most useful transferable skills I learned in academia, what a typical day as a data scientist looks like, and cover some of the lessons I learned along the way on how to make a smooth transition.
