Inflation and the Swampland

The inflationary scenario has become the paradigm of early universe cosmology. Recent work indicates, however, that inflation is in serious tension with fundamental physics. I will discuss the “Swampland Criteria” and the “Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture” and demonstrate that they severely constrain the inflationary scenario, while favouring alternative models of the early universe.
