Evolving Physics to Support Underrepresented Communities

Abstract

Culture refers to the customs, institutions, and achievements of a particular group of people. The field of Physics has a culture and like other cultures, we have norms and values that are widely and institutionally recognized among physicists. If our field is to become more inclusive and supportive of underrepresented communities, we need to make changes to our norms and values. In this talk, I will discuss the need for formal institutional change in Physics and give examples of actions that can be taken to support this evolution of Physics culture.
