Exploring Linear Polarization Measurements With Fast Beams in the Study of 46Ar
ORAL
Abstract
The breakdown of the N=28 shell gap toward the neutron drip line is a crucial area of nuclear structure research. 46Ar lies in the transition from stability toward this exotic region providing a probe into N=28 shell gap evolution, yet the structure of 46Ar is unsettled beyond identifying the first 2+ state. Presented here are preliminary results of a one proton pickup 12C(45Cl,46Ar+γ) study. This experiment was performed at the NSCL using GRETINA to detect the emitted prompt gamma-rays. Discussed at length is our progress in developing gamma-ray linear polarization measurements with fast beams.
