Modulational Instabilities in Rings of Vortices

POSTER

Abstract

We study shear-induced decaying turbulence in two dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates by simulating the results of several experiments using both the point vortex model and the Gross–Pitaevskii equation. Starting from perturbed vortex ring configurations, we compare the evolution of vortex clustering and decay behavior across the two models. This work explores the regimes in which reduced vortex models capture key features of turbulent dynamics, and characterizes discrepancies with more complete theories.
