Computing vortex states with Dirac constraints

ORAL

Abstract

A procedure for calculating vortex states that uses Dirac constraint theory will be described. Several examples will be given, including V-states, rigidly rotating m-fold symmetric vortex patches. The technique is general and applies to both nonconvex and convex contours, and both barotropic and baroclinic vortex dynamics.
