Mixture of thickening and non-thickening particles.

Abstract

We study suspensions of non-colloidal particles (non-thickening particles) in a cornstarch solution (thickening particles in an aqueous solution). ~We show how polydispersity influences the shear thickening, particularly how a Continuous Shear Thickening (CST) behavior transitions to a Discontinuous Shear Thickening (DST) behavior. In addition, we present our results on the role of confinement effects on the general thickening behaviors.
