Experimental/computational comparison of unsteady shock-body interaction.
POSTER
Abstract
Unsteady shock-body interaction phenomena such as a cavity with a sliding opening lid and a cone with a downstream translating frustum are studied by comparing results between shock/wave visualization from experiments and computations. A thin film of water flowing over a sheet of glass exhibits the same wave pattern when encountering obstacles as supersonic gas flow - the Mach-Froude analogy. The use of the water table makes the experiments truly 2D. A finite-volume Integro-Diffrential Model (IDM) scheme is used to solve the time-dependent 2D unsteady compressible NS-equations.
