Triton Source at Florida State University

ORAL

Abstract

Florida State University, in collaboration with the University of Tennessee Knoxville and Oakridge National Laboratory, has developed a Multi-Cathode Source of Negative Ions by Cesium Sputtering (MC-SNICS) at the John D. Fox Laboratory. This MC-SNICS is dedicated to the production of triton beams for use with unique nuclear physics experiments. Deuteron beams have been produced and used for nuclear experiments, and the production of a triton beam is imminent. A discussion of safety precautions, tritium testing, and future plans will be presented.
