Investigating Resonances in Light Nuclei with 3He-Induced Reactions
ORAL
Abstract
Resonances in light nuclei provide insight into nuclear structure and provide sensitive benchmarks for nuclear structure models, particularly ab initio theories. The study of these resonances is challenging due to detecting and identifying decay particles from a particular state with sufficient energy and angular resolution. In this work, we employ an integrated resonance-decay and charged-particle spectroscopy technique to study resonances in light nuclei produced in 3He-induced reactions. By detecting the charged-particle decay products and analyzing reaction kinematics, the resonance energies and widths can be reconstructed using invariant-mass and missing-mass analysis. An experiment has been performed at the John D. Fox Superconducting Linear Accelerator Laboratory at Florida State University (FSU) that utilized charged-particle detectors at both forward and backward laboratory angles to study resonances populated in light-mass nuclei with 3He-induced reactions such as 7Li(3He,4He)6Li. The use of this method to reconstruct resonances in 6Li and 9B will be presented.
