Experimental Stark widths of the 3p-3s transition of Ne VIII

ORAL

Abstract

We report measurements of the line width of the 3p-3s transition in Ne VIII in laser-produced gas jet plasmas. The density is inferred from the Paschen-alpha line in He II, the temperature from Thomson scattering. Preliminary results confirm measurements in pinch and pulsed-arc plasmas indicating that newest quantum-mechanical calculations underestimate the line width by a factor of two.
