The NIF wedge-range-filter proton spectrometer
POSTER
Abstract
A new wedge-range-filter (WRF) proton spectrometer has been designed for implementation at the National Ignition Facility. Based on the existing WRF spectrometers currently in use at the OMEGA laser facility, this model will be modified to optimize performance in the NIF environment. The WRFs will measure proton spectra from 4 to 25 MeV, and a primary application will be diagnosis of ablator $\rho $R and $\rho $R asymmetry in DT implosions (through measurements of knock-on ablator protons). Calibration of these WRFs will be performed using 15-MeV D$^{3}$He protons produced in the MIT Nuclear Products Generator. The WRFs will be ready for installation at the NIF for the Ignition Campaign. This work was supported in part by US DoE, LLNL, and LLE.
