Stimulated Raman Scattering in Direct-Drive Inertial Confinement Fusion Plasmas

Abstract

Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) is clearly visible in all planar and spherical direct-drive National Ignition Facility experiments. They are also visible in high-intensity OMEGA experiments with comparable \textit{IL}$_{\mathrm{n}}$ products ($I$ and $L$ are the intensity and density scale length near the quarter-critical surface). The two experimental platforms are complementary and provide information regarding single-beam and multibeam SRS. Experimental evidence and rough estimates of the levels of SRS will be shown and discussed.
