Overview of Experiments at the Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory
POSTER
Abstract
During the past year, the Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory has been formed to operate several devices asa a DoE User Facility for Frontier Plasma Physics. The devices include the Madison Symmtric Torus, constructed and supported by the DoE for many years for fusion research and the Big Red Ball device constructed with support from the NSF. This poster will present an overview of the transition to a User Facility and an introduction to how users can become engaged. It will also provide highlights of scientific progress, including recent results on reconnection, dynamos, turbulence, and particle acceleration from both devices.
*The user facility is supported by the DOE Office of Fusion Energy Sciences under contract DE-SC0018266 with major facility instrumentation developed with support from the National Science Foundation under award PHY 0923258.
