HED Jet Morphology from Different Initial Conditions

ORAL

Abstract

Experiments have been conducted on the Omega 60 and Omega EP laser systems using the LANL MShock Jetting platform. We have 3 initial geometric conditions for the divot from which the shock initiated jet is formed. The 3 initial divots are of equal volume, consisting of a cone, a cylinder and a hemi-sphere. We have performed xRAGE calculations to understand the changes in the jet features based on the this initial geometry and compare the results of the morphology and a metric to measure the amount to mix.

*The work was conducted under the auspices under the U.S. DOE by LANL under the contract 89233218CNA000001
