A comparison of SOLPS-ITER and Gkeyll simulations on LTX

POSTER

Abstract

Simulations using the gyrokinetic edge code Gkeyll of a hydrogen plasma with lithium impurity

are compared to simulations using the fluid SOLPS-ITER code with drifts on. An analysis is made

of the difference between Gkeyll and SOLPS-ITER in both the collisional and long mean free path

regimes, examining the differences between a kinetic and fluid model. The effect of the flux

limiters in SOLPS-ITER is examined in the comparison to the kinetic code. As a low aspect ratio

tokamak has larger trapped particle fractions, the effect of these is also examined. These initial

investigations will be followed by future double-null simulations for a spherical tokamak.
