Verification and Validation of FLASH for magnetized HED systems
ORAL
Abstract
Recent developments in the FLASH multiphysics code –- including implicit magnetic diffusion with AMR, anomalous resistivity, and 3T SESAME EOS — have equipped FLASH to model magnetized HED systems including various Z pinch configurations. Here, we present a range of unit physics and integrated test problems used for verification and validation of FLASH's magnetized HED capabilities. Analytic benchmarks including magnetic diffusion solutions and linear instability growth rates for canonical z pinch instabilities instill confidence in accurate solution of the equations of interest. In addition, we compare against key magnetized HED experiments to demonstrate FLASH's maturity for experimental design and analysis.
