Detailed Configuration Accounting and Non-Perturbative Density Effects for High-Pressure Opacity Calculations
ORAL
Abstract
We present opacity calculations for low- and mid-Z elements at high pressure using ROCSTAR, a newly developed opacity code targeting high-energy-density plasma applications. Its distinguishing feature is the coupling of detailed atomic structure with a spherically symmetric model of screening by the plasma medium. Major density effects such as continuum lowering and polarization shift are thus naturally accounted for. We show that the intrinsic continuum lowering makes detailed configuration accounting feasible even for mid-Z plasmas at high pressure. We present calculations relevant to upcoming experiments at the OMEGA laser facility. Theoretical questions around the determination of the charge state distribution and mean ionization are also discussed.
