Progress toward profile prediction in Helios

Abstract

The ability to accurately predict plasma profiles in stellarator equilibria is a crucial task in Thea Energy Inc.'s path toward a fusion pilot plant. Self-consistent profile calculations can provide insight into steady-state plasma performance and heating/fueling requirements for a variety of scenarios. Calculating plasma profiles requires a framework that is capable of evolving macro-scale quantities on a transport time scale, subject to micro-scale gyrokinetic simulations on turbulent timescales. For this tool, we use the T3D transport solver, coupled with GENE for turbulent fluxes, and SFINCS for neoclassical calculations. In this work, we show profile prediction results for the "Helios" fusion power plant equilibrium using T3D+GENE+SFINCS.
