Azimuthally Resolved Magnetic Fluctuation Diagnostic for the 17T Axisymmetric Mirror WHAM

POSTER

Abstract

MHD stability is the critical question of the axisymmetric mirror path to a fusion reactor. This poster describes the design and implementation of a 12-probe ring that measures the azimuthal distribution of magnetic fluctuations. This B-dot probe is a 4 cm diameter 10 turn puck designed for high sensitivity and relatively low frequency w_0 ~ 100 kHz. Benchtop and in vessel calibrations give a 530 mV response given a 1 G fluctuation at w_0. The probe is shielded from particles and heat by a machineable Lava ceramic (aluminum silicate). We will present fluctuation analysis of synthetic and experimental data.
