Comparison of xRAGE and LILAC

POSTER

Abstract

A series of directly driven DT ice layer capsules fielded at the OMEGA laser are being used for the 3-D verification and validation effort of the xRAGE code at LANL. We begin with code-code comparisons against the 1-D code LILAC to verify energetics, and good agreement for yield, bang-time, and areal density are obtained with collisional absorption and flux-limited heat conduction models. 2-D xRAGE simulations are ongoing with the goal of quantifying 3-D effects, such as those due to crossbeam energy transfer, beam geometry and mispointing, beam-beam power variations, and target offset. The final goal is a set of 3-D simulations that provide understanding of the effects of flow in the hotspot on observables. This presentation will discuss the current results of the simulations.
