EXCALIBUR (Experimental X-ray CALIBration UseR) Facility "Synchrotron in a Box" for X-Ray Crystal Calibration and Cold Opacity Measurements
ORAL
Abstract
The EXCALIBUR (Experimental X-ray CALIBration UseR) facility at General Atomics enables synchrotron-grade X-ray metrology in a compact, lab-based system. Designed for fast, high-precision measurements, it supports the calibration of X-ray crystals, filters, and target components used in high-energy-density (HED) physics. EXCALIBUR features a fully characterized X-ray source, absolute Si detectors, and a suite of automated instruments and analysis scripts for measuring areal density, opacity, and spectral response. Capabilities include crystal calibration for photon energies from roughly 600 eV to 20 keV. These measurements are essential for the development and validation of diagnostics in fusion and opacity research. Demonstrations involving calibration from ~5-11keV Quartz (Qz) transmission crystals are presented.
