Spatial Variation in Absolute Two Plasmon Decay Thresholds of Laguerre Gaussian Laser Beams

ORAL

Abstract

We investigate the impact of plane polarized Laguerre Gaussian (LG) laser beams on the absolute instability threshold for the two plasmon decay (TPD) instability. The TPD activity across LG beam profiles is affected by both the spatial intensity profile and the alignment between the local transverse wavevector component and the polarization. Variations in the absolute TPD threshold are identified along the peak intensity annular region. The absolute instability thresholds are computed with Laser Plasma Simulation Environment (LPSE), a wave-envelope code. Beam parameters for significant variation in absolute TPD threshold are identified for Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) relevant parameters that will guide future mitigation strategies.
