Simulation of EEG Signal of Epiliptic Seizures in an Artificial Neural Network

POSTER

Abstract

Epileptic seizures are a common brain disorder, however we do not know the root cause due to the resolution of the common diagnostic devices like EEG. EEG cannot see which individual neurons are firing, just the average electrical signal of an area of the brain. There are two proposed causes for epileptic seizures. Those being Super-Critical Brain Avalanches and Neuron Synchronizations. Can EEG distinguish between these two leading proposals of the cause of seizures? We will simulate EEG signals from the artificial neural network of Integrated and Fire neurons that can be driven to both Avalanche and synchronized regimes. This work is still in progress.
