Computer Analysis of B Decays

POSTER

Abstract

This project aims to validate a paper on B-meson decays to a pair of light Pseudoscalar (P) mesons. B mesons decay through various modes with varying probabilities. B-meson decays are measured in terms of (a) CP-averaged branching ratios, (b) direct CP asymmetries, and (c) indirect CP asymmetries. Using a symmetry called flavor SU(3), the paper presented expressions for these observables in terms of several parameters. We wrote a computer code to calculate the observables using the expressions given in the paper. We then compared our calculations with experiments. To do so we used a mathematical tool called the chi-squared (πœ’2) function which gives a measure of how far the theoretical values are from the experimental values when compared to the experimental error bars. We minimized the πœ’2 function to find values of the theoretical parameters. In our poster, we will discuss the results of our analysis and how we plan to use our setup to study other B meson decays in the future.
