Muon and gamma-ray count rates, and atmospheric monitoring during the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024

Abstract
Ambient muon and gamma-ray count rates were measured simultaneously during the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024, at a location within the path of totality, using an array of ten CosmicWatch detectors in five coincident-counting pairs. No significant variations in the muon or gamma-ray rates were observed during any phase of the eclipse, relative to rates measured well outside of the eclipse times. Temperature and illuminance decreased during the eclipse, and relative humidity increased, as expected from previous studies. No unexpected variations were found in atmospheric pressure or carbon dioxide concentration measured at the site during the eclipse.
