Open to options: Exploring science careers outside the laboratory
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
Scientific knowledge equips us with the awareness and techniques necessary to solve various problems in many fields. But generating this knowledge is only the first step in using science for the greater good. The integration of scientific knowledge into society requires the collective efforts of scientists, educators, policymakers, journalists, and others who may not be viewed as holding a traditional science career. This presentation overviews some of these alternative career paths for science-educated individuals outside the laboratory, with examples drawn from the Society of Physics Students summer internship program.
