Physics Understanding, Learning, and Student Exploration (PULSE): A New Organization for High School Physics Students

POSTER

Abstract

Physics Understanding, Learning, and Student Exploration (PULSE) is a program under development for high school students that aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to excel in the field of physics while promoting innovation and professionalism among the next generation of scientists. To accomplish this goal, PULSE plans to provide opportunities to learn the basics of physics and its applications, as well as hands-on experiences in applied physics and what it means to be a working physicist. It also plans to provide a forum for students to begin building their professional networks before transitioning to higher education or employment in a scientific field. This presentation will provide an overview of PULSE and its mission, describe how students can establish a PULSE Chapter at their school, and share opportunities for companies to get involved as sponsors for local Chapters. We will also be talking about ways that high school teachers can be involved and improve their physics engagement abilities.
