Parallel,Series, and Mystery Circuits

Abstract

Most students have a basic understanding of home circuits. In the US, home appliances are designed to plug directly into the wall sockets (120 VAC). These demos show how old fashioned, incandescent filament bulbs compare when placed in parallel and series circuits. The demos reinforce basic concepts, but also provide a few surprises. The Mystery Circuit will be a challenge for your best students! Measurements with multi-meters and watt meters can be used to test/confirm student predictions.
