Simulating the Galactic Magnetar Population
ORAL
Abstract
We aim to determine the underlying physical properties of the roughly two dozen known magnetars in the Milky Way Galaxy by using Monte Carlo simulations. Some parameters such as the initial spin periods and masses of these neutron stars are constrained while others are varied in an attempt to obtain the most realistic model population. We discuss challenges that arise from the small sample size and present other issues related to our computer simulations.
