Applications of Physics and Engineering at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory

Abstract

As a recent graduate of Kettering University with undergraduate degrees in Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering, I have been working for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory as a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Target Systems Department for almost two years. I will be discussing my path from being classically trained in Physics and Engineering to working at a research laboratory as a mechanical engineer in the areas of radiation damage and material studies, remote handling, and beam-interacting systems within the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). In conjunction with my work as an engineer for the lab, I am also a manager for the Accelerator Division Undergraduate Co-op Program and will share what the program has to offer. Additionally, I will cover some of the opportunities available through working at a national lab in the areas of continuous education, career development, and collaborating with amazing communities.
