Recent results and future prospects for electro- and photoproduction of strangeness

Abstract

Investigation of strangeness production continues to be studied both theoretically and experimentally. Electro and photoproduction of associated strangeness from nucleons provides information on strengths of couplings constants, hadron form-factors, and will be critical to resolving questions regarding (QCD) predicted resonances yet to be experimentally observed, and about exotic particles containing multi-strangeness as recently discussed by lattice QCD for dibaryons. Additionally, it also provides a means to study the baryon resonance spectrum and hyperon-nucleon interactions. Some in operation and proposed experiments use electron, or real and virtual photon beams, at laboratories such as JLab, ELPH, LEPS/LEPS2, MAMI, and ELSA. Large high-quality data have been reported from the SAPHIR, LEPS, GRAAL, and CLAS collaborations. Smaller photoproduction data sets have been reported by the NKS collaboration. The results from these collaborations are instrumental in a resurgence of theoretical studies.

This talk will discuss progress and results in recent data including some differential and total cross-sections and polarization observables and briefly outline future prospects.
