On-line Monitoring of Ultrasonic Polymer Chain Scission

Poly vinyl pyrrolidone in dilute aqueous solution was subjected to ultrasonic scission. The decrease of the molecular weight was monitored by light scattering via a BIMwA molecular weight analyzer. The on-line data was compared with the theoretical models of Schmid, Malhorta, Price, Madras and Berlin, Doulah,. The models were compared on the bases of $\chi ^{2}$ analysis and fit quality. It is seen that on-line data can discriminate among theoretical models.
