Topological Quantum Computation and Measurement

Abstract

Topologically ordered phases of matter possess ``anyons'' - quasiparticle excitations with exotic exchange statistics. Anyonic systems can potentially be exploited to provide an intrinsically fault-tolerant medium for quantum information processing. I will explain how this topological approach to quantum computation works and examine the role of measurements in this scheme.
