Bad origami

Origami research often assumes rigid plates connected by free hinges, but interesting and useful behaviors emerge if these assumptions are relaxed. I will show how breaking the rules of flat and rigid folding, $i.e.$ making ``bad origami,'' can lead to structures that exhibit mechanical rigidity and bistability.
