Professional Skills Development Seminar for Undergraduate & Graduate Women

Abstract

This 2-hour seminar will focus on professional skills that students can use to negotiate a position in academia, industry or at a national lab, interact positively on teams and with a mentor or advisor, think tactically, articulate goals, enhance their personal presence, and develop alliances. This highly interactive workshop will be led by Dr. Homeyra Sadaghiani, a Professor of Physics at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP).

Dr. Sadaghiani completed her Ph.D. on the study of student learning of quantum phenomenon and their ability to interpret mathematical formalism into physical meanings. At CPP, she is actively engaged in research related to teaching and learning physics. She is working at the forefront of her department’s research-based curricular reform for introductory and advanced courses, as well as college and university efforts in improving student success in STEM fields. She has led several professional development workshops for K-12 science teachers and CSU physics faculty.
