Einstein’s Quest for a Unified Theory

In this talk I will discuss some aspects of Einstein’s attempts to unify all the forces of nature. In particular, I will describe his fascination with Kaluza-Klein theory and his failed attempts to derive the structure of (quantized) matter using this approach.
