Broadband Non-reciprocity in Active-feedback Mechanical Metamaterials

Abstract


We introduce mechanical metamaterials with suitably designed active-feedback mechanisms that exhibit linear non-reciprocity, namely they transmit motion differently depending on the direction of the input forcing. We show that the effect is tunable, broadband and can lead to unidirectional transmission.
