Local Nematic Susceptibility In Stressed BaFe2As2 From NMR Electric Field Gradient Measurements

Abstract

We report NMR experiments under uniaxial stress on BaFe2As2 single crystals above the structural transition. The 75As nucleus possesses an electric quadrupolar moment that is sensitive to the local electric field gradient (EFG) created by surrounding electrons. We measured NMR spectra at fixed temperatures and variable strains and then observed the linear response of the EFG splitting to strain. Using the slope of this response we extracted the local nematic susceptibility.
