Enhancing outreach and building community in the University of Alaska Fairbanks physics department through an active chapter of the Society of Physics Students

POSTER

Abstract

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a national organization dedicated to “helping students transform themselves into contributing members of the professional community.” The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) has had a local SPS chapter for many years. Recently, the chapter has grown significantly and become much more active. In this poster we will showcase the opportunities and outreach that our chapter has provided to UAF students and the Fairbanks community within the last several years. Through these activities we have worked to create a strong undergraduate physics community at UAF and raise the public awareness of the department through community outreach. It is our hope that this poster will offer ideas and inspiration to other physics departments and SPS chapters across the nation.
