Impacting the field of physics by creating a pipeline for undergraduate physics students to work in Congress

POSTER

Abstract

When it comes to science policy, undergraduate students are rarely mentioned, despite having the necessary skills for success in the field. In this poster, I will use my experience as a physics undergraduate and intern for the majority side of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, to highlight the need for more scientifically trained people in Congress. I will provide arguments as to why undergraduate physics students offer a solution to this problem. I will also show how that solution can be implemented through the funding of more policy internships for physics students. Finally, I will demonstrate how a relatively small investment in this area can have large impacts on the field of physics.
