Tracking motion and sleep in Astyanax fish

POSTER

Abstract

Astyanax or tetra fish, as a genus, contain more than 150 species, many of which have migrated into coastal caves around the Gulf of Mexico, convergently evolving sleeplessness, blindness and more sensitive lateral lines. Social behavior is also affected, which may in turn affect sleep patterns. We analyze Astyanax tracking data from the labs of Alex Keene and Erik Duboué at Florida Atlantic University and Wilkes Honors College to characterize motion and sleep patterns and their variations across species.
