Physicists who lead: You don't need your own invention to found a deep-tech startup
Invited
Abstract
A startup is the most powerful vehicle for commercializing early stage deep technologies as products, but building a founding team, getting connected to the right people, and raising financing, are some of the hardest things you can ever do. TandemLaunch builds companies based on university technologies that it scouts from institutions all over the world. Graduates from physical science and engineering join TandemLaunch to learn how to become technology leaders, and within 6 months, become founders of a new deep-tech venture based on university technologies with a seed investment of $600,000. As Technology Director at TandemLaunch, I spend most of my time looking for the next great technology investment. In this talk, I’ll walk you through the life of a commercialized technology, give advice for anyone looking to build a university spin-out, and share some stories about some awesome physicist entrepreneurs who have built companies at TandemLaunch.
