Ultrasonic Pulse-Echo Technique in High Magnetic Field

ORAL

Abstract

I will describe the experimental setup available for the investigation of the properties of 3D and 2D solids by pulse-echo ultrasound in the DC Field Facility of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. I will demonstrate examples of its applications for studying the elastic properties of 3D materials such as Gd5Si2Ge2, Sr3Cr2O8, AuZn, Sr2RuO4. Also, I will show how a surface acoustic wave was used as a contactless probe of rf conductivity in 2D systems, which included research on Wigner solids, spin-orbit interactions, intersubband scattering in SiGe/Ge/SiGe, Si/SiGe/Si, and AlGaAs /GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells.
